DRYER SEAL INFORMATION

Rotary drum seals bridge the gap between the rotating drum and the stationary housing to provide a sealed processing environment within the drum while still allowing the it to rotate smoothly. Seals help to ensure that the rotary drum and overall process perform as intended. There are many kinds of seals and each offer advantages in their application.

Two common types of seals

1. Labyrinth, used when biggest concern is air leakage
2. Mechanical seals, provides better tightness, used in more demanding conditions

Seals are damaged most by overheating or by physical abuse. Overheating can occur because of insufficient cooling by fans or by insulating them from natural cooling. Physical damage is done by not cleaning seal discharge chute or by running the kiln too slow, causing spillback.
